Lace at Cannes Film Festival 2011; "Whose yay and whose nay?"

Cannes 2011 spotted some lacy looks in red carpet. Our favorites are the nude and muted tones.

Chiara Ferragni, Aishwarya Rai, and Emily Browning

Italian fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni walked the red carpet in Alberta Ferretti whereas Indian actress Aishwarya Rai in one-shoulder gown by Elie Saab. We love the lacy details of their dresses. Meanwhile, Aussie actress Emily Browning made official Cannes debut in Valentino. She looked like a goddess in beige lace.

More lace at movie premieres in neutral numbers, safe colors but not too safe looks. These celebrities were taking too much risk. What do you say? 

Fan Bing Bing, Rachel McAdams, and Claudia Schiffer

Chinese actress and singer Fan Bing Bing took a bridal look as if she were a royal princess. She made an entrance in white gown with lace train from Elie Saab 2009 couture. The “royal wedding fever” also infected Rachel McAdams. She wore Marchesa red lace with the nude tulle train. We say “yay” for her makeup, hair, and the lace; but say “nay” for the train! Lastly, German supermodel Claudia Schiffer couldn’t wrap her flapper body perfectly. The Chanel see-through lace dress gave a clear view of her sharp shoulder bone and a peek view of her skinny femur. Where’s the curves, Mrs. Schiffer?

All in all, who’s the worst of them all? Here’s the top two.

Mallika Sherawat and Candice Boucher

Bollywood sex symbol Mallika Sherawat seemed confidence in black outfit which had an assortment of bling, ribbons, tapes, and lace while playboy model Candice Boucher walked on the red carpet in a controversial transparent gown.  Candice covered her vitals with lace flowers and leaved the rest uncovered. Haven’t you heard that “less is more”, Mallika? But not “that less”, Candice! Look how normal they were while attending other events at Cannes.

Ms. Sherawat redeemed herself by wearing Alexander McQueen knee-length lace dress and brought sunny color in Dolce & Gabbana yellow mini. Furthermore, Ms. Boucher upgraded her look by putting white blazer on little white dress at the photocall for her movie "Aazaan".

Cannes isn’t always about the glam. Copy these simple styles for your semi-casual look. Most of celebs wore light color especially white lace for their photocall shot during the day.

Mia Wasikowska, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Uma Thurman

Australian actress Mia Wasikowska chose a simple, nude, lace Valentino dress for the ‘Restless’ photocall. Elizabeth Olsen, little sister of the Olsen twins, wears a vintage, white, lace frock to the ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’ film photocall. Actress Bryce Dallas Howard rocked up with a lacy shirt and navy maxiskirt. Last but not least, the gorgeous Uma Thurman looked stunning in a long-sleeved lace-print Dolce Gabbana dress.
